After 22 years, the Sunnivue farmhouse has a new roof. With record amounts of snowfall over the winter of 2017 to 2018, Alex and Ellinor Nurnberg had been using pots and pans to catch leaks coming through the roof. The new roof is made of metal, and work was completed just a few weeks ago.
Alex and Ellinor remember a raging hailstorm when they first moved into the farmhouse, with hailstones breaking through kitchen windows. As Alex describes it: "I went to the barn and the cows were going crazy: it was like artillery." Ellinor says the vehicles at the farm looked like egg cartons: with huge dents from all the hail strikes. The farmhouse roof was replaced after that storm with money from the insurance company, and this time, the funds were generated thorough ROSE and the farm's partnership with organic farmers Jason O'Neil and Twan Peters. "It hung in there well," says Alex, happy to be welcoming the new roof after all the years at the farm.
